Foreverence has been in custom cremation urn business for a long time. And every day, we help individuals and families share stories about the people they still hold so deeply in their hearts. Although there’s an inherent degree of sadness in making custom urns, even with the beautiful and unique works of art we craft, you can never prepare yourself to be so profoundly moved by an message in your inbox that helps remind you why you do what you do.
Cody Gifford-Coffman lost his life on November 7th, 2018, at the Borderline Bar in Thousand Oaks, California, in the most senseless and tragic way. Line dancing with his friends was one of his many passions, and today, we are honored to help Cody’s mom, Cheryl, express his life, passion, and legacy through a cremation urn inspired by his favorite pair of boots and hat.
We are grateful that Cheryl found us and allowed us to help her family in such an important way. Our hope is that someday—a long, long time from now—this piece will bring a smile to her face instead of a tear to her eye.
For her to take the time to share her experience with us was so special, and with her blessing, we are proud to share it here.
Hello Pete,
Initially when I looked online to find someone that could custom make an urn for my son Cody Lee Gifford-Coffman, victim of the mass shooting at the Borderline Bar & Grill in Thousand Oaks, CA, I was unaware of what exactly I was looking for or wanting. When I found Foreverence and emailed in regards to whom I was, the immediate response and outpouring of help from you was beyond words. Amazing!
I had an idea of what I may want for Cody, however, no real vision on how to make that happen. I mean, how do you portray your child’s entire being into a box to have for the remainder of your days. It is not supposed to be this way; it is supposed to be the other way around. Cody and I were two peas in a pod. He was my road dog, my twin, my rock, the twinkle in my eye, & my everything. There was nothing we couldn’t/wouldn’t talk about all through his years. He and I had a bond like no other.
Pete, when I sent you my thoughts on things I would like to incorporate for Cody’s urn, giving you a brief description of him as a person, and sending you a few pictures, I had no idea how you would be able to incorporate all of that into anything.
I truly have no words to express this beautiful piece you have made for Cody and I. It is extremely special to me, just like he is/was. As you stated in the beautiful post you placed, eventually it will be something for me to look at and smile at with all the amazing memories I have of him. Gone too soon, but forever and always my angel, my dude, and my twinkle. Until he and I meet again, I will cherish this piece with everything I have.
Forever grateful.
Your friend,
Cheryl A Tate
